Learning the art of Meditation
Alot of techniques are involved when it comes to meditating. If you've visited this page before, feel
free to click on a link to the page you want to visit. If you're new, begin with Progressive Relaxation. These
pages will guide you from the simple art of relaxing to leaving the meditative state.
An important part of meditation is comfort. If your body becomes too cold, you won't be able to meditate as easily,
unless you are an avid meditatior. Our bodies get colder as we go deeper into our conciousness, so cover yourself with a blanket before you begin. Loose clothing also helps. Make sure you will not be disturbed. Unplug the phone, and if you live with other people, tell them not to disturb you. Put a spell on your door if you have to! Just make
sure you will have quiet and privacy.
Creating a Dramatic Scenario
Now let a scene unfold in your mind...real or imagined...let it unfold as if on a 360 degree movie screen...
live out your greatest desire...there are no limitations...you are the star, the writer, the director...you can do whatever you want...
Mental Counting
Another technique is to count. Usuall counting down numbers to yourself...it is lulling to the mind and is similar to counting sheep to overcome insomnia. The numbers you begin and end with are up to you. You can
repeat a set of numbers over and over.
Leaving the Meditative State
When you want to return...focus on your physical body...think about your head...your face...your arms and legs and
feet...when you feel solidly back in your body, open your eyes and move...move and get your blood moving. Revel in the fact that you're alive and a part of the phsyical world. Run a few miles, enjoy an aerobic workout, anything a living being would do.
